MUSHROOM FAQ's
What are Medicinal Mushrooms?
Medicinal mushrooms are a unique subset of mushrooms that contain active therapeutic compounds such as polysaccharides, triperpenes, and sterols, that can support overall health. Medicinal mushrooms have been used for thousands of years in cultures all over the world as traditional medicines.
Medicinal Mushrooms are known adaptogens - they work with your body’s natural defenses to manage stress, balance hormones, and bring your body into homeostasis. Each mushroom also has its own distinct characteristics which can help support gut health, the nervous system, stress, blood sugar regulation and more.
Why Mushrooms + Probiotics?
Mushrooms are starting to be recognized for their support in digestive wellness and a healthy gut microbiome. Mushrooms contain prebiotics that act to create optimum conditions for healthy gut bacteria like the ones in our SuperBiome formula. Mushrooms also have immunomodulating properties that can help support digestive health. We believe that mushrooms and probiotics create a perfect partnership in helping restore one’s gut back into balance. New research is revealing that fungi have an important role in optimal gut biome balance.
Why Should We Take Them?
People all over the world have been using medicinal mushrooms for millenia. Their proven ability to boost our immune system, balance our gut, energize us, support our neurological health and more is amazing. Natural remedies like mushrooms and a healthy lifestyle have incredible potential.
Why is Eidon’s ‘SuperBiome’ Superior to Other Mushroom Products?
- We use actual mushroom fruiting bodies (the part you can see), not mycelium
- We use extracts of these mushrooms
- Our mushroom blend contains concentrated extracts
- They are grown organically
- Pure mushrooms, no fillers
- Added Probiotics to enhance gut and immune health
What Should I Feel?
Each individual processes and absorbs nutrients differently. Some people may feel something right away when taking medicinal mushrooms. Most benefits aren’t experienced right away. Adaptogens like mushrooms work slowly over time. It may take a few weeks to see and feel the benefits.
How Long Should I Take These For?
Some formulas enhance cognition or improve performance, and you might notice results fairly quickly. Others boost immune health, and you may not notice anything except fewer illnesses. Typically it’s a good idea to give anything at least 30 days to assess how it’s working for you.
Given the continuous assault on our gut biome from the daily toxins we are exposed to, it may be a good idea to make this supplement a regular part of your daily regimen.
Mushrooms, like kale, are a functional food and therefore can be eaten daily. Our serving size is based on a healthy adult. It is safe to take more or less than the suggested amount in consultation with your healthcare practitioner. While there are no toxicity levels established for our mushroom products, it’s a good idea to start with the minimum dose, and always consult a health practitioner if you have a serious medical condition.
Are There Any Side Effects to Taking Mushrooms?
Although medicinal mushrooms are generally safe, there is always the potential that they could interact with other medications.
How Are The Mushrooms Grown?
Our mushroom extracts are made from certified organic mushrooms, grown naturally on substrate materials native to each particular mushroom.
No sterile laboratories, sterile air, sterile growing environment or artificial lights. No unnatural substrates made of cereal grains or rice.
Our mushrooms are grown in greenhouses with natural lighting and natural fresh air flow. We want our mushrooms to be grown the same way you want your food produced – on a farm tended by real people not in a laboratory managed by technicians.
What is the extraction process of mushroom powder extracts?
Our mushrooms are grown organically on wood, then harvested and dried. The dried mushrooms are then ground into a fine powder.
The mushroom powders are then brewed multiple times in hot water and/or alcohol. Hot water releases water soluble compounds. Alcohol releases non-water soluble compounds like terpenes and fatty acids. The heat also breaks down the cell walls of the mushroom allowing for the extraction of the beneficial compounds (beta-glucans, triterpenes, etc.). The mushroom cell walls are made up of chitin, which our bodies do not have the enzymes to break down properly. If we just eat fresh mushrooms without heating and breaking down the cell walls, the active compounds are not as bioavailable to us. Hence, the requirement for extraction.
The resulting liquid from cooking the mushrooms is drained off and concentrated to the desired consistency. If any alcohol is used in the extraction, it is precipitated out (removed). The liquid is then spray dried, which removes all the water, leaving the final powder, without any of the water and/or alcohol.
Who Shouldn’t Take These?
If you are having surgery, have a medical condition, or are taking prescription drugs, including blood thinners or insulin medications, please consult your health practitioner prior to taking our products.
What’s the Difference Between Mushrooms and Mycelium?
The fungal life-cycle consists of spores, mycelium and mushroom. Mycelium is the stage that produces a mushroom but it is not a mushroom. Mycelium is the vegetative state (think root system) of the fungal life cycle. Products made entirely from mushrooms, like Eidon’s eight mushroom blend in our SuperBiome, typically have 5-10x more beta-glucans than mycelium on grain products.
What are the Main Benefits of Medicinal Mushrooms?
Research suggests mushrooms may be synergistic, meaning they accomplish more together than alone. While each mushroom has unique benefits, when taken together, the combined eight mushroom blend has enhanced overall benefits.
- Promotes digestive balance and improves systemic functions for natural immunity.
- Supports the body in adapting to physical, mental, and environmental stress factors.
