Phosphorus is an essential yet often overlooked element in terms of daily need. While many medical professionals believe adequate levels are available in our diets, it is in fact very questionable that we are getting enough of this critical element. This current assumption, which is widespread, is now coming under closer scrutiny.

Phosphorus has been identified as important in the following biological functions:

  • Energy production
  • Essential component of bones and teeth
  • Component of all biological membranes, e.g. cells and organs
  • Integrity of DNA and RNA

According to the National Academy of Science Dietary Reference Intakes, the daily recommended intake for Phosphorus has been determined based on serum (blood) levels of inorganic phosphate. We now know that the body wants to maintain blood mineral homeostasis, which implies that blood levels should be relatively stable, and will only infrequently show out of range phosphorus levels.

Another way to evaluate tissue levels of Phosphorus is via a Hair Mineral Analysis. This is, in our opinion, a more accurate measurement method for evaluating Phosphorus and other minerals. An important hair mineral ratio is the Calcium to Phosphorus ratio. The current understanding is that an optimal ratio is two and a half parts Calcium to one part Phosphorus. Excess Calcium to Phosphorus indicates a slow metabolism as excess Calcium interferes with Phosphorus and its ability to create energy. The reverse indicates a fast metabolic type.

The unanswered question is how much Phosphorus do we really need? A lot depends on the amount of absorbable Calcium and Phosphorus we consume daily and the effective functioning of the thyroid and parathyroid. They all interact to create an optimal functioning energy system.

Of major significance is that Calcium intake can interfere with Phosphorus absorption and utilization. What this all means is that even though we may think we are getting enough Phosphorus in our diet, we may not be absorbing it. Secondarily, the excessive levels of Calcium ingested today, both from dairy products and supplements, create abnormal levels of interference with Phosphorus absorption, availability and utilization.

Aluminum, which is very common in our environment, can also interfere with Phosphorus utilization by binding it up.

The primary indicators of inadequate levels of Phosphorus are:

  • Inability to gain weight
  • Loss of energy
  • Muscle weakness
  • Softening of bones
  • General debility and fatigue

Given we do not know how much Phosphorus we are getting daily, it may be a good idea to supplement. Thus, Eidon is now offering a bioavailable form of Phosphorus with Potassium.

Eidon Liquid Minerals are All Natural, Highly Bioavailable and contain NO sugars, starch, artificial flavors, colors, preservatives or animal by-products. Vegan and Gluten-Free. Eidon uses the finest ingredients known to us in the formulation of our unique preparations. Out of respect for all life, we do not test - nor have we ever tested - our products on animals.

Obtaining the needed minerals via the food we eat is a chronic problem today. This is primarily due to our deficient soils and over processing and over cooking of our foods. Drinking ultra-purified water can also strip our body of these essential minerals. It is important to be aware of the fact that reverse osmosis and distilled water will actually act in reverse of what nature intended our water to do. Instead of being a mineral delivery system, the minerals are taken out of the water and this puts additional stress on the body tissue to compensate for the lack of minerals in the water. The minerals must then be taken from our healthy reserves in bone and muscle, thus leaving our system deficient and vulnerable. Replacement is essential!

The missing link to my energy production!

Posted by Amanda on 10th Jan 2020

I am an active 24yr old female but in 2019 I was having trouble with healthy weight gain, maintaining my energy and an unbalanced microbiome due to diet changes. I spoke with Eidon's nutritionist about my hair analysis results and was recommended to add Phosphorus into my daily routine. I also take their SuperBiome powder, Molybdenum and Zinc. It's been over two months and I feel much better when my days come to an end. Thank you Eidon!! From their website, "Excess Calcium to Phosphorus indicates a slow metabolism as excess Calcium interferes with Phosphorus and its ability to create energy. The reverse indicates a fast metabolic type."
